Custom Logo Ferro Rods: How Laser Engraving Works, MOQ, and What Changes the Price

A logo is the quickest way to make a stock fire starter look like your own product. Here’s how we laser-engrave logos, what the minimum is, and which choices change your quote.

> Custom logo ferro rods are usually laser-engraved on the handle, the striker or the packaging. You send a logo file, approve a mockup, and production starts. At Survfire, laser logos start from 50 pcs. Price depends mainly on logo placement, the number of engraved spots, the handle material and the packaging.

That’s the short version. The rest covers each step, what moves your quote, and the questions buyers ask us most.

How Laser Engraving Works on a Ferro Rod

What the laser actually does

A laser marks the surface of the handle or striker. On wood it burns the top layer slightly darker. On metal and coated surfaces it changes the surface so the mark shows lighter or darker than the material around it. There is no ink involved.

Know this before you design anything: a laser logo is single colour. There is no colour fill. Your logo comes out as one tone against the material, so a five-colour logo becomes a one-colour mark.

Which surfaces take a logo well

| Surface | How the mark looks | Notes |

| Wood handle | Darker, burned tone | Most popular choice; size is limited by the curve |

| Plastic or metal (e.g. aluminium) handle | Light or dark contrast, depending on the material | Clean lines; good for small text |

| Steel striker | Fine, subtle mark | Works for a short brand name or simple icon |

| Kraft box or tin | Darker mark on the surface | Lets the product itself stay plain |

Why laser rather than printing on most handles

A Feuerstahl gets handled, scraped and carried in pockets and packs. A printed logo sits on top of the surface and can wear off with use. A laser mark is part of the surface, so it is permanent and doesn’t rub off the way print can. On a tool people really use outdoors, that’s why we push laser for the handle.

Where Your Logo Can Go (and How Big It Can Be)

Handle, rod, striker or box
  • Handle (wooden, plastic or metal): the most visible spot and the one most buyers choose. It’s what people hold and see in photos.
  • Striker: good for a second, smaller mark, or for a brand name when the handle carries an icon.
  • Rod: we don’t engrave the rod body. It gets scraped down with every strike, so a logo there would simply be scraped off. The logo goes on the handle (wooden, plastic or metal) or on the striker instead.
  • Box or pouch: useful when you want a clean product, or when your logo relies on colour.

Engraving the handle and leaving the striker blank is fine too. That’s a common way to start.

If you are building a full private label line rather than adding a logo to one item, our private label page explains how we handle the whole programme, and the custom ferro rods OEM and private label guide covers the wider options.

Size limits on curved wooden handles

Wooden handles are round or oval. A laser works best on a surface that stays at the same distance from the lens, so on a curved handle the usable area is a band across the flattest part. So the curve limits how wide your logo can be. Go too wide and it gets scaled down, or the edges go soft. A compact or stacked version of your logo usually engraves better than a long horizontal one.

One logo or two?

One engraved spot (usually the handle) is the simplest setup. Adding a second spot, such as the striker, means a second setup and more handling per piece. We cover how that affects the price below.

What We Need From You: Logo Files and Mockups

File types that engrave cleanly

Send your logo as an AI file, a PDF vector file, or a high-resolution JPG. Vector files (AI or PDF) give the cleanest edges because the laser follows the lines directly. A high-res JPG works too, as long as it’s sharp and high contrast.

Black on white is ideal. Colour and gradient files are fine to send, but remember the laser is single colour, so we convert them to one tone. Very thin lines and tiny text can fill in or break up, especially on wood.

The mockup step

Before anything gets engraved, we make a mockup showing your logo on the product at the planned size and position. You approve it, or ask for changes. Nothing goes to production until you’re happy with it.

Mockup vs a real engraved sample

A mockup shows placement and proportion. It can’t show exactly how the burn looks on a particular piece of wood. If the exact look matters to you, ask about a physical sample before the bulk order. More on samples in the next section.

Send us your logo and target quantity, and we’ll make a mockup and quote.

MOQ, Samples and Timing for Custom Logo Orders

Custom laser logos start from 50 pcs. This is the minimum for adding a laser logo only. It is not the product MOQ: ferro rod and kit quantities are quoted separately, depending on the model you choose.

Custom printed paper boxes start from 500 pcs.

Samples

If you want to check the rod itself before ordering, a plain sample is the way to do it. A plain single ferro rod or wood-handle ferro rod sample can be free. Kit samples (with tinder, box and so on) are not free, and custom box sampling is charged. You always pay the shipping.

Samples with your logo engraved are not free. If you need one, tell us and we’ll include it in the quote.

Samples ship within 7 days. Transit time is additional.

To ask for one, use our sample request an.

Production time

For orders within 500 pcs, production takes 7–10 days after the logo is approved. For larger orders, we confirm the schedule with your quote.

What Changes the Price of a Custom Logo Ferro Rod

We don’t publish one price for logo rods. The quote depends on the choices below, and here’s which way each one pushes it.

Number of engraved spots

One spot is the baseline. A second spot on the striker or the other side of the handle adds setup and handling time per piece, so it adds to the cost.

Handle and striker choice

Wood handles, plastic or metal handles and different striker styles all have their own base cost. An engraved striker costs more than a plain one, simply because it goes through the laser too.

Rod size

Thicker rods use more material and last longer. An 8 mm ferro rod gives around 6,000 strikes, and larger diameters cost more per piece. See our Feuerstähle im Großhandel page for the sizes we stock.

Verpackung

A stock bag or OPP bag is the cheapest option. A custom printed paper box (from 500 pcs) adds cost, and full kit packaging adds more again. If you’re looking at kits, see wholesale fire starter kits.

Ferro rod packaging options: blister card, kraft box, tin and pouch
Menge

Setting up a logo, checking the first pieces and adjusting the machine takes about the same time whether the run is small or large. Bigger runs just spread that setup over more pieces.

What a quote should list

When you compare suppliers, make sure each quote tells you:

  • Rod size and handle material
  • Where the logo goes and how many spots
  • Whether the striker is plain or engraved
  • Packaging type and whether box printing is included
  • Sample terms and who pays shipping
  • Production time for your quantity

Common Mistakes With Custom Logo Orders

  • Sending a logo with hairline strokes or very small text. It looks fine on screen and disappears on wood.
  • Expecting full colour on the handle. Put the colour version on the box instead.
  • Forgetting the box needs its own artwork file.
  • Designing a long, wide logo for a round handle.
  • Skipping a sample check on a big first order. It’s also the easiest one to avoid.

Conclusion

It really comes down to a few decisions: where the logo goes, how many spots, which handle and rod size, and how it’s packed. Laser logos are single colour and permanent, they start from 50 pcs, and orders within 500 pcs take 7–10 days once the logo is approved. We have been in business for over 15 years, and we have ISO 9001 certification.

Häufige Fragen

What is the minimum order for a custom logo ferro rod?

Custom laser logos start from 50 pcs. This is the minimum for the logo only; ferro rod quantities are quoted separately.

Is laser engraving permanent?

Yes. The laser marks the surface itself instead of adding ink, so the logo doesn’t wear off the way printing can.

Can I put my logo in colour on a ferro rod?

No. A laser logo is single colour, with no colour fill. If colour matters, put the colour logo on the box or pouch.

Can I get a sample before ordering?

A plain single ferro rod or wood-handle ferro rod sample can be free, and you pay the shipping. Kit samples, custom box samples and samples with your logo are charged. Samples ship within 7 days. Transit time is additional.

What file format should I send for my logo?

An AI file, a PDF vector file, or a high-resolution JPG. Black on white gives the cleanest result.
